HLB Egypt-Makary Consulting possesses long-track experience in conducting studies to international donors and public institutions for the development of certain sectors/ areas. Key experts were also heavily involved in the privatization scheme in Egypt, and are highly acquainted with the sustainable development plan concept for governorates, tourism areas and urban cities. These studies are conducted independently or in cooperation with well-known local and international consultancy and engineering firms.
Examples of these studies include conducting strategies for the development of the furniture sector and its exports and the clay bricks sector in Egypt, as well as market, financial and economic studies for the development of economic zones in Egypt and abroad, and for national projects such as East Port Said City and the Golden Triangle Area.
MSMEs and Cluster Development:
A large number of studies in the development sector is related to the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and clusters containing them, where the firm’s key experts possess extensive experience related to MSMEs' challenges, needs, policy issues and access to finance, as well as connections with a large number of stakeholders including NGOs, banks and financing institutions in different areas.
In this respect, HLB Egypt-Makary Consulting conducted mapping for organic clusters in Upper and Lower Egypt, and organized a conference to disseminate its results to more than 150 local and international participants, in addition to a study for the development and proposition of action plan for two major clusters in Egypt, a study to assess MSEs job creation, and another one to assist SMEs in Port Said to access finance to establish new projects or expand their existing ones.
Water and Wastewater Sector:
HLB Egypt-Makary Consulting works intensively in the water/wastewater sector since 2004. The firm acquired knowledge and understanding of the water/wastewater sector in Egypt post the reform of the sector in 2004 through acting as a short-term consultant in a number of key projects sponsored by key donors in the sector. During this period, key experts maintained close and direct coordination with the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater (HCWW) and relevant affiliate water/wastewater companies, the Egyptian Water and Wastewater Regulatory Authority (EWRA), and key public stakeholders in the sector through contributing in projects/programs sponsored by key international donors, such as KFW, GTZ/GIZ, USAID, EIB and UNICEF. They also acted as financial/economic advisors to HCWW in some short-term assignments.
